Who is Laura Coral?
Curricular Sequence for the University’s Teacher Preparation Program at the Secondary Level (PPMES). I am a certified Secondary Level English teacher, having passed the PCMAS.
Now in my second year of my MAEE program at the University of Puerto Rico, I am currently in my third semester of being a Graduate Teaching Assistant. I have had the opportunity to teach Ingl 3201 and 3202, English Reading and Composition I and II, and Ingl 3103, Intermediate English. For my thesis, I am studying how the GTAs believe the use of alternate, non-canonical texts and alternate pedagogies stimulate discussion in and use of the English-language amongst their students, most of whom self-identify as English as a Second Language (ESL) students. I have previously presented in two conferences in 2016: the Popular Culture and

American Culture Associations (PCA/ACA) national conference in Seattle, Washington, and the Popular Culture Student Association (PCSA) conference in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. I am also an Editorial Assistant for the a/b: Auto/Biography Studies journal in the UPRM.
My name is Laura Coral Garcia de la Noceda Vazquez. I was born and raised in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Since I was a child, I always envisioned myself as a teacher. In Kindergarten, I drew myself as a teacher for our career drawings. The idea of teaching had always been embedded in me. Since I was in elementary school to my graduation of High School, I attended Carvin School Inc., a private school in Carolina. During my years in high school, I got side tracked and abandoned the idea of teaching When I graduated, I was accepted in Animal Industry department in the University of Puerto Rico’s Mayagüez campus. After my first year, I discovered I had no passion for what I was studying. I decided to come to the English Department for an orientation and have never left. I currently belong to the Masters of Arts in English Education (MAEE) program in the University of Puerto Rico at the Mayagüez Campus.
